As with any produce, we recommend that you rinse all berries thoroughly before consuming them. It is best to wash them just prior eating as washing will reduce the shelf life.

What is the best way to freeze berries?

This is one of the most common questions we get asked. For blueberries, we do not recommend washing them prior to freezing or it will change the characteristics and texture of the berry. Spread them on a cookie sheet and freeze them. This method will result in individually frozen berries that are easier to use. Rinse and thaw before use.
For strawberries, blackberries and raspberries it is recommended to first rinse, then dry in a strainer or on a towel. Be sure to remove any stems or caps at this point. Once they are dry, place them on wax paper on a cookie sheet and put them in the freezer. After the berry is frozen solid, place in a sealed bag or container and leave in the freezer until it is time to add to a recipe, dessert or smoothie. This method will keep the berries individually frozen as to a large clump of berries.

Are Somerfield berries GMO?

How should I store my Somerfield berries?

The best way to store your berries when you bring them home from the store is to place them directly in the refrigerator. Berries are perishable so eat it is best to consume them quickly after purchase, but be sure to rinse your berries prior to eating. Do not put them in the freezer unless you follow the steps above.

What is the QR Code looking thing on the label?

At Somerfield Farms we have developed our own traceability system that allows us to track each and every package of berries back to the farm, field and picker. While this far exceeds the industry standards for traceability and food safety, it also allows us to better understand yields, consumer preferences, shelf-life, quality, varieties and much more. Bottom line is it helps us continue to deliver the best tasting, highest quality berries to our family and yours!
